Position Summary

Delbarton School, an independent Benedictine Catholic school for young men in grades 7-12 seeks excellent candidates for the role of Assistant Director of Mission and Ministry and Theology teacher. They should be compelling educational practitioners who are confident in their capacity to create and deliver a dynamic, engaging, and challenging curriculum to high school students. In addition to their teaching assignments, all teaching faculty are expected to contribute to the life of the school community through coaching and/or moderating student activities. The preferred candidate is a practicing Roman Catholic with a degree in Theology.

Responsibilities - Assistant Director of Mission & Ministry

  • Assists the Director of Mission and Ministry in developing a comprehensive vision for campus ministry consistent with the School’s mission and the goals of the Headmaster, and in articulating and fostering the Catholic and Benedictine identity and mission of the school.
  • Assists with the Campus Ministry component of the New and Returning Student Orientations.
  • Plans, organizes, and leads the retreat program for freshmen and sophomores, as well as the team preparation process for these.
  • Co-coordinates the community service program along with and under the guidance of the Director of Mission and Ministry, which includes organizing and leading the Community Service Fair, empowering and directing faculty service project moderators and student service coordinators to effectively lead the projects, encouraging participation from among the school community, fostering campus-wide awareness of the needs of those served by the projects, and supporting student-generated projects in addition to those offered by the service program when possible.
  • Represents the Office of Mission and Ministry at meetings and events as discussed with the Director of Mission and Ministry.
  • Provides pastoral care for students.
  • Teaches three Theology courses each semester.

Responsibilities - Theology Teacher

  • Recognizes and supports the unique Benedictine Catholic mission of the school by speaking, acting, and instructing in a manner that is consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. In his/her professional capacity, the teacher may not espouse any doctrine inconsistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Works collaboratively with the Administration to build the faith community, giving evidence of lived Gospel values by personal example and by being an active member of a church community.
  • Adheres to all school policies and regulations, while supporting the school’s spiritual, pastoral, and educational mission.
  • Builds the school’s faith community by a demonstrated willingness to participate and help plan school liturgies, prayer services, and service-related activities.
  • Demonstrates and effectively communicates knowledge of and competency in academic and religious curriculum; organizes learning materials to maximize time, as well as engage and motivate students.
  • Performs other related duties, as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, Attributes)

  • Undergraduate degree in Theology and/or Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
  • Possesses ability to effectively teach and assess an academically gifted and diverse student population.
  • Excellent writing and communication skills.
  • History of collegiality and collaboration with other teachers and administrators.
  • Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of students with diverse learning profiles.
  • Innovative, creative, and flexible teaching style.
  • Understands the developmental needs of students and how they learn best.
  • Demonstrated and direct experience using a wide range of instructional technology tools including Zoom, Office 365, and Google.
