Sports Medicine

The Delbarton Sports Medicine Department is committed to prioritizing the athletes health and well being.  we will provide time during the school day for evaluation and treatment of student athlete injuries and on-field injury care during practices and contests.

mission and purpose

The Delbarton Sports Medicine Department will strive to provide every student-athlete with the most comprehensive, highest quality, sports medicine health care available in a professional, compassionate, and efficient manner. Through communication with the athletic training staff, team physician, school nurse, and physical therapists the sports medicine team will collaborate to meet the individual needs of each student athlete. The health and safety of the student- athlete and their return to activity in the shortest, but safest amount of time possible, is of the utmost importance.

Delbarton School's two athletic training rooms are located in the Lynch Athletic Center adjacent to the Murphy Fitness Center as well as the bottom floor of Pizzo Family Fieldhouse.   It is staffed by 3 New Jersey State Licensed and NATABOC certified athletic trainers.  Injury evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation occur throughout the school day and during athletic practices and games.

Provide Timely Care

Provide timely sideline emergency care at all home contests, most practices and a majority of varsity playoff competition.

Effectively Communicate

Effectively communicate injury concerns with coaches and school nurse in regards to limitations and clearances, as well as with parents when further medical evaluation is recommended or required.

Records and Reporting

Thoroughly record injuries and treatments of student-athletes under our department's care.

Athletic Trainers (ATs) are health care professionals who collaborate with physicians to provide preventative services, emergency care, clinical diagnosis, therapeutic intervention and rehabilitation of injuries and medical conditions. Certified athletic trainers must earn a degree from an accredited athletic training curriculum. Accredited programs include formal instruction in areas such as injury/illness prevention, first aid and emergency care, assessment of injury/illness, human anatomy and physiology, therapeutic modalities, and nutrition.

  • Hours: 
    • Monday - Friday: 10:00am - 6:00pm; 
    • Saturday and Sunday during home athletic contests.
  • An athletic trainer is available during all home athletic contests and before and during almost all athletic practices.

Visiting Team Info

  • An Athletic Trainer will be on campus for most athletic events. 
  • Please contact the Delbarton Sports Medicine Department in advance or provide written clearance if an athlete needs to be taped before a contest. 
  • If a visiting athlete sustains a serious injury, we will make every effort to contact your athletic department or medical staff, provided we have your phone number on file. 
  • Please make every effort to contact the Delbarton Sports Medicine Department if one of our athletes is seriously injured while competing at your school.

Rehabilitation Of injury

Rehabilitation can be performed under the direction and supervision of the Athletic Trainers. A Physical Therapy prescription is needed for all major and post-surgical injuries. We can accommodate most rehabilitation cases, but are sometimes limited by time, or equipment.  Please contact us with questions.
