A message from the president
Thank You Tim Fitzsimmons ‘95
Thank you Tim for two years of inspired leadership and guidance, especially over these last few months, and I just want start by highlighting how the Alumni Association has adapted under Tim’s leadership during a time when our entire event calendar got turned upside down:
We created a special Succisa Virescit video message to the Class of 2020 to let them know the Alumni Association will always be there to support them.
We promoted Delbarton Together, a new two-day online event focused on gratitude and giving, led by Maria Van Kirk (great job Maria).
We created an online GWTID gear photo contest.
We helped build up our online Delbarton business directory to support Alumni businesses.
And most recently we held a virtual board meeting to discuss how the Alumni Association can further support and participate in the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion initiatives of the school.
As you can see, the Alumni Association is ready, willing, and able to adjust to the challenges of our times.
Role of President
So again, thank you Tim. And now he passes the torch. And what will I, as President and torchbearer do for the next two years? For starters, and on the advice of many Alumni who come to events to enjoy the camaraderie and NOT to hear me speak, I promise to keep all my comments and speeches brief! In all seriousness though, my job is simple, because it’s not about ME, it’s about YOU. I am simply here to advance the mission of the Alumni Association by enlisting the help and support of our constituents, YOU, the Alumni. Together, our Mission is to foster a spirit of brotherhood which promotes the welfare and character of the Delbarton graduate, community, and school. As President, I will work hard to engage more Alumni, and deepen those engagements via the events and initiatives we have built through the leadership of Craig Paris and previous Association Presidents, while working with you to improve or promote new ways to engage our Alumni in support of our Mission.
Value of Delbarton Alumni Network, ways to Support
So how do we go about building a stronger Alumni Association?
It’s simple, get involved! DO something!
- Attend or help organize an Alumni event or reception
- Attend School shows, productions, contests, sporting or other events
- Participate in a Regional Alumni Club
- Volunteer as a Class Rep
- Attend or help organize an Alumni religious service
- Participate in our many community service events
- Support the fundraising effort individually and by encouraging your classmates to contribute
- Volunteer to serve on one our Alumni committees to organize and support these activities
Something I would like to especially focus on during my term as President is to further strengthen our Alumni Networking capabilities. As Fr. Michael said, one of the biggest strengths of Delbarton School is our Alumni network. Last year’s Parent survey showed that 94% of Parents view the Alumni Network as an Important or Very Important service and benefit to the students. As a father of three Delbarton boys I also am looking forward to my sons utilizing the Delbarton network when they enter the workforce. So how can we build and strengthen our Alumni Network which is viewed as vital to the success and attractiveness of a Delbarton education and lifelong brotherhood?
You can offer mentorship or guidance to younger alumni in your career field or those thinking about future career moves,
Be a DelEx host to current students,
Utilize delbartonalumni.com to share news and event planning with your classmates, post job opportunities, advertise your business, support businesses of alumni, and network with Alumni. If you don’t have a login on delbartonalumni.com yet please get one!
While the state of our Delbarton Alumni union is strong, we can do even better. Active Alumni participation in all these activities makes our Association the pride of our school and the envy of others, and I encourage all of you to find a way to contribute.
While the world has been grappling with a viral pandemic, remote learning and working, volatile financial markets, job insecurity, political division, and protests on racial injustice, at Delbarton and through our Alumni Association we can come together and take comfort in a safe harbor from these churning seas. While in harbor however we should seek not only to tend to our own ship, but to prepare ourselves and work towards building a better community outside our port. We are all representatives of Delbarton and how we engage our outside social relationships and business dealings should always reflect the Christian and Benedictine values we were taught at Delbarton and which we seek to strengthen through our Alumni Association.
Faith, Family, Fraternity
The Virus and resulting challenges we have faced individually and as a society have caused a lot of personal introspection. Besides realizing how much we may miss our barber, you may have also stopped to consider what really matters in life. What gives us purpose and our lives meaning? In my mind the top three are Family, Faith, and Fraternity. Especially in times of adversity we will always look to our Family, Faith, and Friends to get us through. Where else can you combine all three than at Delbarton, both as a student, and after graduation as an Alum through our many programs, events, and overall support of Delbarton’s mission? This is it, gentlemen, it’s right here in front of you, here, at Delbarton, where we belong, we find meaning here.
In closing, I am simply here to help steer the ship. It is YOU who will build it and set the sails. Together, WE will succeed on our voyage of building a stronger Family, Faith, and Fraternity.
Thank you for the all work you do to support our Mission. We have an incredible Alumni Association, and I am honored to lead it.
Go Green Wave!

The students of Delbarton thrive because of the support of the entire Delbarton community. As an alumnus, you are an essential part of this community. By making a gift to the Delbarton Fund, you can transform the educational experience for every student.
Your gift to the Delbarton Fund...
- Helps fund a financial aid budget of more than $3.5 million this year, providing aid to over 20% of the student body.
- Provides over $180,000 in supplementary budgetary support for arts programs, sports teams, clubs, and organizations, taking the fundraising burden off booster groups and activity participants.
- Affords competitive salaries, benefits, and professional development opportunities for a faculty that immerses themselves fully in the Delbarton experience.
Last year, gifts from over 2,700 current parents, alumni, and parents of alums raised a record $3.05 million in cash gifts to the Delbarton Fund. This year, donations to the Delbarton Fund—approximately 10% of the annual operating budget and adding up to about $2,420 per student—will be put to use immediately, impacting the daily life of each Delbarton student.
