Three Delbarton Artists Earn Scholastic Art & Writing Awards

The Delbarton Art Department is pleased to announce that we have three award winners in the 2021 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.

  • Declan Maseker, 12th grade, Honorable Mention for "Marriage of Nature", digital image (Teacher: Diane Lopez)
  • Colin Sutter, 12th grade, Honorable Mention for "Virginia Ham", oil pastel on paper (Teacher: Diane Lopez)
  • Dean Sharif, 11th grade, Silver Key Award for "Preoccupied", white charcoal on black paper (Teacher: Caitlin Servilio)

The Montclair Art Museum will host a virtual awards ceremony on Thursday, February 25 at 6PM, and the students' artwork will be included as part of a virtual exhibition on the Museum website in February.

Since 1923, the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards have recognized some of America’s most celebrated artists while they were teenagers including Andy Warhol, Zac Posen, Tschabalala Self, Robert Indiana, Ken Burns, Luis Jiménez, and Kay WalkingStick. Our young studio artists are in good company.

A jury of professional artists, curators, and arts educators spent 40+ hours reviewing 3,106 works of art submitted by 1,180 individual student artists from across northern New Jersey. Our artists’ work was selected as part of the top 30% of the most outstanding work submitted among their peers.

The Delbarton community congratulates Declan, Colin and Dean on these fine results!
