On November 21, Delbarton introduced a NEW WAVE Thanksgiving Food Drive modeled on our successful one-day Christmas Gift Drive.
All 35 deaneries (including all 609 students in grades 7 through 12) were involved in this massive group effort. Deaneries met previously to assign one food item (plus a 48 oz can of coffee) to each boy. Example: all members of the Albacores deanery were asked to bring in 2 large can of tuna. Top requests from Nourish NJ included tuna, corn, potatoes, tomatoes, tomato sauce, black beans, chickpeas, peanut butter and jelly...and lots and lots of coffee.
During M Block, deaneries met in classrooms, completed forms to document donations, then filled and sealed boxes. Volunteers delivered the cartons to an 18-wheeler parked outside the Science Pavilion where DMG volunteers Diane Brady, Kathy Hager, Sharon Tompkins and Rebecca VanVolkenburgh stood with clipboards, checking in each box while hard-working student volunteers hoisted cartons into the truck. Check it out!
On November 22, Delbarton dads and sons will meet at the Community Soup Kitchen and Outreach Center in Morristown to unload the truck. All hands on deck! You're welcome to meet Food Drive organizer, Campus Ministry Director Dr. David Hajduk, at 65 South Street at 3 pm to lend some muscle to the group effort.
Thank you to all donors and volunteers for your support of this annual Delbarton Thanksgiving Food Drive that benefits so many in our wider community!
