DelEX moderator Tom Brady reports that 2019 has been an outstanding success.
As of June 24, rising seniors in the Class of 2020 have successfully completed 93 externships, with 10 more to go. Delbarton’s annual externship program winds down in early July. Brady was assisted by Capital Campaign Assistant Director Matt Campbell '08 and a new tool was added: the DelEX website created by two young Delbarton entrepreneurs, Mike Darche '10 and Tyler Hudson-Crimi '08 of Catalyze Marketing.
Previously, on May 6, Elizabeth Ricciardelli P'19, '21, Head of Talent Acquisition for Travelers Insurance, met with DelEX participants to sharpen their communication, business etiquette, and career building skills. She instructed the Class of 2020 on the power of first impressions, interviewing tactics, the importance of building professional contacts and, as part of the DelEX program, how to craft a resume and how to create a LinkedIn account.
Ironically, Ricciardelli herself recently attended Boston College freshman orientation with a DelEX 2018 'graduate', her son Michael Ricciardelli ’19, where he ran into his 2018 DelEX host who was attending with his daughter, another member of the BC incoming class. The DelEX network at work!
Using the DelEX online platform, hosts are invited to complete an exit survey, and we are pleased to report that our 2019 volunteers have been consistently impressed with our DelEX students. Here are several of their comments…
- "I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful young man he is. Every day he came prepared with questions. He was on time or early every day and even stayed late all 3 days. He seemed to have a “thirst” for knowledge that not a lot of teenage boys possess. His questions were poignant and well-thought out and he always seemed to know where the conversation was headed. He was respectful and friendly with my staff and engaged in conversation. We were happy to have him, and I look forward to participating in this program again."
- "These kids are spectacular!"
- "I hope the boys enjoyed it as much as we enjoyed having them. They were very engaged and asked a lot of good questions."
- "They are fine young men and represented the very best of Delbarton. Their parents should be very proud of them."
In some cases, DelEX hosts cross-pollinated current parents with Delbarton alumni, as in the case of Lisa Castellano '18,'20 at Big Four accounting firm Ernst and Young who hosted ten members of the Class of 2020 with the assistance of Trevor Incledon '13 and Tommy Fowler '13 who are pictured below on left with rising seniors Ivan Scotto '20, Zach Rosen '20 and Cade Lanzycki '20 with Castellano.

Thank you to our alumni and parent DelEX hosts for opening doors for members of the Class of 2020. Thanks to you, these young men are well-prepared, better informed and poised to make more strategic choices as they complete their college applications this fall, and approach graduation day next June!
