Last night, October 18, Delbarton hosted the first ever Fall Ensemble Showcase Concert as students in our Music Ensembles performed in the FAC theater for friends and family.
“Tonight is a milestone moment in Delbarton’s history,” Fr. Michael, OSB, began as he welcomed families to the concert event. “This is the first concert performance of musical ensembles that take place during the school day. These students are taking music for credit and you can see a number of ensembles and student performers that would not have been here had they not made that choice or created that opportunity for students to take music during the school day."
The night began with the Jazz Band performing three numbers directed by Mr. Nathan Eklund. Following the Jazz performance, Mr. Andrew Lyman took the stage to direct his students in Middle School Band, String Orchestra and High School Band. Lyman stated how about half of the Middle School Band consists of beginner musicians having just taken up their instruments nearly seven weeks ago. Last but not least, Middle School Chorus, the Benedictones and Schola Cantorum took the stage as they were directed by Mr. David Blazier. “It’s the start of something new, a start of a new era,” Blazier said as he described Delbarton's new music curriculum. He added that the arts are an investment of time and by having this first-ever showcase, and that students can use this experience as a benchmark as their growth as musicians continue to grow throughout the year.
