Over the next ten months, Delbarton will embark on writing a Strategic Plan document to guide us through much of the remainder of this decade, ensuring that our longstanding history of Benedictine Catholic education is sustained and enriched.
On January 10, 2022, Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd, OSB hosted a meeting in Spada Commons that included the Strategic Planning Steering Committee Chairs, Domain Chairs and Staff Liaisons.
The session was led by Kathleen Casey, pictured above with Fr. Michael, our facilitator from the Catholic school consulting firm Partners in Mission. Co-Chairing the Strategic Plan process are Delbarton Regents Amon Johnson, IV P'20,'22,'25, on left below, and Michael Szymanski P'18,'20 on right.
The following is an explanation of the Strategic Plan process, including the names of the many volunteers who are offering their time, talent and energy to build an even brighter future for Delbarton. We thank them all!
DELBARTON SCHOOL STRATEGIC PLAN UPDATE: DOMAINS, LEADERS & NEXT STEPS
Why Does Delbarton Need a Strategic Plan?
A well-built Strategic Plan communicates Delbarton’s mission and vision to guide our future from 2023-28. Tapping into all constituencies, the plan collaboratively defines Delbarton’s goals and objectives, and positions the school for mission-faithful excellence and transformational change in a dynamic educational landscape.
Why a 5-Year Strategic Plan?
Delbarton’s Board of Regents, the Benedictine monastic community, and school leadership recognize that Delbarton has grown and accomplished much in its history. Building on our current position of strength, we seek to create a documented vision to guide us through much of the remainder of this decade, ensuring that our longstanding history of Benedictine Catholic education is sustained and enriched.
How Long Does the Process Take?
Over the next ten months, we will examine eight domains (key areas) and focus on where we have been, where we are now and where we want to be. This process is participative and collaborative, and we look forward to learning your perspective to help drive Delbarton’s strategic direction. A survey will be sent to you in the next few weeks. Please respond -- your input matters!
On January 10, 2022, Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd, O.S.B., our Strategic Planning Steering Committee Chairs, Domain Chairs and Staff Liaisons met with Kathleen Casey, our facilitator from the Catholic school consulting firm Partners in Mission, to discuss objectives, timelines and project expectations. Kathleen explained the process, logic and logistics, and each person left the meeting tasked with specific to-dos and key deadlines.

Each Domain Chair or Co-Chair has been given a ‘Book of Knowledge’ containing previously collected data and trends related to their respective domain. This information, combined with more data gathering from a community-wide survey, interviews, and community engagement, helps the Domain Chairs construct a three to five-page Domain Narrative affirming what Delbarton does well, addressing misperceptions, and describing potential issues and opportunities. Each report offers a current state of the school but does not include recommendation or suggestions -- that comes later in the process. Each narrative is then cross-referenced with other domain reports to find commonalities, trends and identify key issues.
On October 29, 2022, we will host a retreat on campus where the goals and objectives will be defined to set the future direction for Delbarton. The diagram below illustrates the process from start to finish...
