Delbarton Gift Drive Delivers Smiles to 900 Youngsters

The Delbarton Christmas Toy Drive is a 30-year tradition that brings Christmas cheer to donors and gift recipients alike. This year we partner with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Paterson to share 2-3 gifts each with 900 girls and boys – and Delbarton delivers!

On December 10 during an extended M Block, Deanery members assembled in Trinity Hall classrooms to box and label unwrapped gifts (each group was previously given a Christmas List indicating the ages and genders). Each deanery, comprised of students in grades 7 to 12, donated 32 gifts, roughly 2 items per student. Toys were packed, boxes were marked, checked off by a DMG volunteer, then loaded onto a truck provided by W.J. Harrington & Sons.

Christmas music was in the air, Santa made the rounds and mini donuts and cups of steaming cocoa were served in the Old Gym on a rainy December day. Distribution Day takes place this Sunday, December 15, preceded by 8:30 am Mass in the Abbey Church, followed by a bus ride to the Straight and Narrow Center in Paterson. Student, parent and faculty volunteers will unload and arrange the toys, decorate the Center and help the children of Paterson to choose their favorite gifts.

Campus Ministry Director Dr. David Hajduk says, “During the season of hope and good-will, let’s all do our part to bring Light to those who face so many hardships and challenges. When we offer hospitality and serve those in need, we become the face of Christ for them, as well as welcome and serve Christ in them.”

Thank you to the MANY volunteers and generous donors who are helping us play Santa in Paterson this Christmas season!
