On Saturday evening, November 2, the Delbarton Campus Ministry program will be honored with the Catholic Family and Community Services Award at the Caritas Gala, an annual celebration hosted by Catholic Charities of Paterson. The dinner event begins with a cocktail hour at 6:30 pm the Birchwood Manor in Whippany, NJ. Click here for ticket and sponsorship details.
The Caritas Gala is Catholic Charites of Paterson's annual celebration of the people who it serves and individuals and institutions that are making a difference in their lives. This year, the Delbarton Campus Ministry Program is one of four Caritas Gala honorees to receive a special award at the event:
Bishop's Award: The Moglia Family Foundation
Department for Persons with Disabilities Award: Dianne Macchia Hanson
Catholic Family and Community Services Award: The Delbarton Campus Ministry Program
Straight and Narrow Award: St. Joseph's Health
This special recognition for Delbarton Campus Ministry is an acknowledgement of the annual Christmas Gift Drive the School conducts each holiday season.
Last December, each boy was asked to donate several toys, deaneries gathered and, in one hour, had boxed, labeled and delivered 1,800 toys and gifts to an 18-wheeler parked outside the Science Pavilion. For many, the one day collection at Delbarton is their favorite day of the year because it joins us all in a group effort that benefits so many. The Drive was also supported by several alumni events and donations that amplified the power and reach of the collection. On a Sunday in December, 150+ volunteers arrived at the Fr. English Center in Paterson to distribute the gifts and other food and toy donations from Delbarton families and friends.
Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd, OSB, says, "We at Delbarton are incredibly grateful for the opportunity to partner with Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Paterson in their Christmas Toy Drive. The need of many families for help in making Christmas joy happen for their children is significant.”
Last December, Campus Ministry Director Dr. David Hajduk and Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd, OSB helped a 150+ person team of Delbarton volunteers distribute toys at the Father English Center in Paterson.
Campus Ministry Director Dr. David Hajduk, who partners throughout the year with parent, student and faculty volunteers, is instrumental in every aspect of the Drive. He will accept Caritas Gala award on behalf of the School and says, “"Our hearts are gladdened by the graciousness of Catholic Charities in acknowledging our efforts. Rather than see this award as an honor for a job well done, we see it as an encouragement that our school community is becoming more and more what it is called by God to be: a light in an often dark world, a source of hope to those whose lives are very difficult. Any sense of pride we feel is permeated by a profound sense of humility and gratitude. We see clearly how God has blessed us, and, in recognition of this and moved by His grace, we count it a privilege to have the opportunity to bless others."
We encourage members of the Delbarton community to support the Caritas Gala and to join us at the Birchwood Manor on the evening of November 2 in celebration of the community spirit that is so much a part of the Delbarton ethos. Fr. Michael says, “Our Benedictine charism calls us to see Christ in the guest, the stranger, and especially the poor. We are privileged to share Christ's gift of himself with those we serve at the Father English Center each December. Catholic Charities mission of serving Christ in all who come to them calls us at Delbarton to be more authentically who we aspire to be."
Catholic Charities of Paterson and its agencies provide service to people in need, advocate for justice in social structures, and call upon other people and institutions like Delbarton to join them in these worthy efforts. The organization operates over 70 programs to help individuals throughout the Diocese of Paterson and beyond, providing help and creating hope for thousands of people each day.
The Delbarton community thanks Catholic Charites of Paterson for affirming the value of our Campus Ministry program!
