The Delbarton community salutes Connor Teehan '21, our latest official Eagle Scout. Teehan recently earned his Eagle Scout award from Troop #34 in Franklin Lakes, NJ. He is pictured above with his scouting mentor James Calvano after Teehan's official Board of Review. At age 15, Teehan also earned the distinction of being the troop's youngest-ever Eagle scout, an honor only possible due to his perseverance, diligence and dedication.
For his culminating project, Teehan tackled the renovation and reorganization of a storage facility at the Basilica of the Sacred Heart in Newark, NJ. The space is used to store supplies, seating and equipment for major church events and celebrations. Over time, the storage facility had become a jumble of poorly organized items that needed some serious attention.
To execute the project, Teehan moved everything out of the space and started from scratch, painting the floor and adding sturdy shelving to make a more systematic use of the room feasible. Next, he inventoried all contents, hundreds of items that are now arranged in a logical, more usable and accessible order. The project began during summer 2017 with a master plan that needed church approval before Teehan could proceed (getting approval was the hardest part, he says, since he was impatient to dig into the project). With approval in hand, in spring 2018 he was finally able to get to work and completed the massive overhaul in just one month.
With two more years left in his high school career, Teehan, a Delbarton lifer, now serves as a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 34, mentoring other scouts as they strive to earn their Eagle Scout status. He is also deeply involved in the award-winning Delbarton Forensics Society program, in the arts and music, and in Green Wave athletics. Teehan is also responsible for oversight of the annual Delbarton Photo Contest (stay tuned for an exciting new twist for the 2019-2020 school year).
Congratulations to Connor Teehan '21, Debarton's newest Eagle Scout!
