On Sunday, July 18, Mr. Matt White and Br. Finnbar McEvoy, O.S.B., Director and Assistant Director of Mission and Ministry, met some of the Campus Ministry team at Asbury Park for a day of fun in the sun and a surfing lesson. Will Calder '22, Domenic Caruso '22, Braden Lalin '22, and Paul Mattiola '22 joined Mr. White and Br. Finnbar for the day.
First, the group attended morning Mass together at Our Lady of Mt Carmel church in Asbury Park, where the readings for the day focused on the perils of bad leadership and the promise of a perfect king (cf. Jer 23) and an invitation to rest in the Lord as our perfect shepherd (Psalm 23). In the Gospel reading for the day, Jesus invited his disciples to “Come away by yourselves to a deserted place and rest a while,” (Mk 6:30). After Mass, the team made its way to the beach to enjoy the beautiful summer day.
Mr. White, as avid surfer, soon had the boys and Br. Finnbar navigating some basic surfing lessons. After a few tries, the guys began to improve and enjoyed learning from an expert how to master the waves. Caruso observed, “Every time you fall, it’s succisa virescit!”
The group concluded the day with lunch on the boardwalk, where they shared about their prayerful preparation for ministry, ideas for the service and retreat programs, and exciting opportunities this year.
Delbarton Campus Ministers are the spiritual leaders of the student body. They guide their peers and younger brothers by leading retreats, assisting at liturgies, and coordinating service programs. Please pray for this year's Campus Ministers, including Christian Carbeau '22 and Richie Mistichelli '22, who could not join the team Sunday, as they continue to acclimate to their important roles this year. This is also the first year that Mr. White and Br. Finnbar will be managing Delbarton's Mission & Ministry process and we wish the team well as they prepare to launch another year of worship and service at Delbarton!
