2021 Delbarton Experience Speeches

One of the highlights of the Delbarton year is the "Delbarton Experience" speaker series. Presented to incoming students and their families each year, Headmaster Fr. Michael asks six seniors to develop speeches that present a reflection on their journeys at Delbarton. In his speech, each young man is asked to share his joys, sorrows, successes, disappointments, and his trajectory of growth as a young man of faith, intellect, and character, as he portrays one thread of the tapestry that is Delbarton School.

In 2021, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, six members of the Class of 2021 shared their memories virtually.  Click below to hear from all six of our Delbarton Experience speakers:

Dylan Cawley 

Dylan entered Delbarton in the ninth grade. Over the past four years, he's served as a Captain of the Speech and Debate team, swam and managed on the Varsity swim team, and coordinated events for the Social Justice Committee. This Fall, Dylan is off to Emory University to study Public Policy and International Relations. Dylan and his family live in Long Valley, New Jersey. 
 

Maximus Cresti

Maximus entered Delbarton in ninth grade. During his time at Delbarton, he was a two-year varsity basketball and soccer player. He was also a student leader of the percussion ensemble, a student coordinator of the Blood Drive, and a retreat leader. This fall, Maximus moves on to the University of Virginia where he plans to major in Biomedical Engineering.  Maximus and his family live in Chester, NJ. 

Nicolas Gritz

Nicolas entered Delbarton as a lifer in seventh grade. During his time on campus, Nicolas played piano in the jazz band, debated for the varsity forensics team, and played four years on the varsity Green Wave Tennis team. He was also a Student Ambassador and Deanery Leader. Next year, Nicolas moves on to Hamilton College, where he was recruited to play tennis. He plans to study economics and music. Nicolas and his family live in Chatham NJ. 

Matthew Johnson

Matthew joined Delbarton in seventh grade as a "lifer."  During his tenure at Delbarton, Matthew was a Senior Student Ambassador Coordinator, a member of the Council of Seniors, and a deanery leader.  He was also an avid member of the Middle School Mentors Program, the National Spanish Honors Society, and served as a Spanish tutor to his younger Delbarton brothers.  Matthew was a co-captain of the 2021 Varsity Lacrosse team and has received three varsity letters.  He also received a varsity letter in indoor/winter track.  Next fall, Matthew moves on to Williams College (MA) to major in economics and play for the men's lacrosse team.  Matthew and his family live in Somerset, NJ.

Christian Lalin

Christian joined Delbarton’s class of 2021 in the ninth grade. At Delbarton, Christian was a three year varsity tennis player, serving as captain his senior year. Christian was an avid member of Delbarton’s club life leading the Investment Club, Business and Economics club, as well as the Politics club. Christian was also a campus minister as well as a student ambassador. Next year, Christian moves on to Princeton University where he will be studying economics. Christian and his family live in Mendham, NJ. 

Michael Mastrangelo

Michael joined Delbarton's Class of 2021 as a transfer student in the tenth grade.  During his time on campus, Michael was a three-year member of the Student Ambassador program, was a leader in the "Big Brother" program and played for the Green Wave baseball team his senior year. Next year, he will be attending St. Lawrence University, majoring in business and political science.  Michael and his family live in Essex Fells, NJ.
