17th Annual Carter Cup Honors the Memory of Michael Carter '00

The 17th annual Carter Cup—the Metropolitan Golf Association's Junior Stroke Play Championship—was held at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ on Wednesday, July 31. The invitational event is named in memory of Michael P. Carter '00, an accomplished junior player and standout member of the Green Wave golf team who died in a car accident in 2002. Michael was a junior club champion at both Baltusrol and Winged Foot Golf Club, as well as a promising player on the Penn State golf team.

The Carter Cup features 46 top junior golfers from the metropolitan area typically playing 36 holes in the summer heat on Baltusrol’s two championship courses—a rigorous test of mental and physical endurance. Due to yesterday’s late afternoon thunderstorms, the group was only able to complete the first 18 holes. Ben Carpenter of Darien, CT claimed the 17th Carter Cup with a 2-under par 69. Delbarton congratulates Ben on his win.

This year Delbarton was represented by Green Wave golfers Chase Millar ’21 and Drew Mulcahy '20, pictured here with Michael's family members Kerry Carter and Mary Lou Carter P'00 on left, and Aly Carter Lopian on right. Delbarton too honors the memory of Michael Carter '00 who gave the sport of golf everything he had while he was among us.
