On February 3, the Delbarton Paddle Club participated in the inaugural APTA NJ State High School Paddle Team Championship. The tournament brought together eight boy's teams and four girl's teams playing at three different locations: Fairmount Country Club and Noe Pond Club in Chatham, and Essex Fells Country Club in West Orange. The boy's teams included Bergen Catholic, two teams from Chatham High School, Ramapo High School, Seton Hall Prep, Delbarton, Ridgewood High School and Summit High School. The four girl's teams included two Chatham High School teams, one from Ridgewood High School. The fourth team combined players from Montclair Kimberly Academy and Mount St. Dominic.

The tournament offered a round robin format with each school fielding four courts per round. The school that won the most matches in a given round advanced to the next. There were a total of four rounds for the boys (Open, Quarters, Semis, and Finals), and Delbarton Paddle Club players finished second overall, losing to Chatham's top boys team in the Finals.

Our Club players included Grady Burke '21, Connor Cho '21, Sachin Gulati '21, Matthew Mendoza '21, Will Morton '21, Julian Murray '21, Ryan Reynolds '21 and Will Robinson '22. Morton was instrumental in organizing the Delbarton Paddle Club in 2017-18 as his freshman project, and Director of the Capital Campaign Pat Collins '81, P'19 serves as Paddle Club coach and moderator.

Thank you to the Morristown Field Club for providing the Delbarton Paddle Club with court time free of charge. A salute also to Delbarton mother Heidi Morton P '17, '21 who took the lead in getting Delbarton registered, working with tournament officials, and coordinating with parents to transport the boys to the courts.
