St. Mary’s Abbey and Delbarton School take abuse, harassment, hazing and bullying seriously. The monastic community and the School have a zero tolerance policy for abusive behavior of any kind by students, employees, or members of the monastic community.

At St. Mary's Abbey and Delbarton School, each new employee is required to:

• Be fingerprinted according to New Jersey Department of Education requirements.

• Pass a New Jersey Department of Education background check that uses the national F.B.I. crime database.

At St. Mary's Abbey and Delbarton School, each employee is annually required to:

• Complete successfully a comprehensive Vector Solutions training program.

• Read and acknowledge by signature the Employee Handbook that contains all abuse, harassment and bullying prevention policies and procedures.

All St. Mary's Abbey and Delbarton School employees are annually required to take Vector Solutions' Child Abuse Prevention module, as well as courses on preventing harassment, intimidation and bullying, understanding diversity, emergency First Aid, and blood-borne pathogen response.

REPORTING ABUSE OR SAFETY CONCERNS

Everyone in the St. Mary's Abbey and Delbarton School community is encouraged to report a safety concern or threat.  Delbarton uses the Vector Solutions Vector Alert.

CAMPUS SECURITY

Delbarton School provides armed security coverage for the Delbarton campus. Routinely, the guards police the campus, screen visitors and generally ensure a safe school environment. All of our security personnel are retired police officers have been vetted by the Delbarton administration.  

Guards are on duty throughout the school year.  Additionally, Delbarton guards will be present for large school events, Summer Camp and Summer School.

VISITOR POLICY

• Visitors to Delbarton School must register at the reception desk at the main entrance of Trinity Hall and receive a visitor's pass from the Receptionist.  Visitors to the Peter L. O'Neill '59 Alumni Center at Old Main should register with the Advancement & Alumni Administrative Assistant.
• A government-issued identification card (driver's license or other official ID card) is required for access to monastery and School buildings.
• Visitors to the monastery must sign in at the Monastery Reception Desk at the main entrance of the 1966 Monastery building on the East Gate Road.  The Receptionist will call the monk you wish to see to meet you at the monastery reception area.
• Visitors must specify the purpose of their visit and their destination(s) on campus.
• Visitors must sign out with the Monastery or School Receptionist when they leave campus.
• Children or youth under the age of 18 who are not enrolled at Delbarton School are not permitted on campus, unless prior approval of the Headmaster, the monastery Prior or their designees has been obtained.

Annual AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act) Notification Letter

JULY 2022

As mandated by Federal Regulation 40 CFR Part 763, known as AHERA (Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act, enacted in 1987), required all schools (K-12) to conduct initial inspection to determine the presence and condition of Asbestos Containing Materials (ACM). If they do, ACM must be categorized according to the type of material, its locations, current damage/condition, and its potential for future damage and detailed Asbestos Management Plan (MP) must be developed. The Management Plan details the inspection findings and outlines the response actions the School intends to implement.

To accomplish this requirement, the School Board now has on file at each school and in District Office a NJ State Department of Health approved Asbestos Management Plan for all school facilities. The provisions of the plan are being implemented in a timely and on-going fashion. It is a desire of the School District to provide a safe and healthy facility for all students, employees, and visitors.

School / School District name has been conducting US EPA AHERA Six-Month Periodic Surveillance and a Three-year AHERA Re-Inspection is scheduled for month, year. All previous periodic surveillances and re-inspections are included in the School's Management Plan. Since last written notice, there have been no asbestos response activities to report.

The purpose of this notification letter is to satisfy the requirements of AHERA for written notice of the availability of the Management Plan for review. Should you desire, please contact School Administrative Office for further details.
