Calling all interested alumni and parents-- please register here by Friday, May 9 to serve as a DelEX host this June and July...

Wanted: Delbarton alumni and parents willing to share their professional know-how from June 9 to July 3 with one or more curious, motivated rising Delbarton seniors. Alumni and parents are cordially invited to sign on as hosts for the Tenth Annual Delbarton Externship Program, aka 'DelEX'.

Over the past decade, nearly 700 Delbarton students have connected with over 250 alumni and parents to explore a wide variety of career paths, experience professional environments and typical workdays, and see how real-life challenges (including commutes) are negotiated. This year, rising seniors are invited to submit their externship selections on the DelEX site from May 16 to May 23. A mandatory student coaching session on Thursday, May 29 to educate students on DelEX procedures and personal professionalism is a key component of the process. 

Each June and July, DelEX offers an opportunity for incoming seniors to connect with alumni and parents from coast-to-coast, in-person and virtually, to explore career opportunities and extend learning beyond school boundaries. Selected alumni and parents of alumni in private enterprise or public service offer brief training programs to students after the academic calendar ends. Students 'shadow' alumni and parent hosts during the program, sit in on meetings, work on projects, and network with professionals. Virtual options are also available, typically through 60-90 minute virtual web conference calls with small groups of interested students. 

Past externships have offered exposure to business, finance, military, entertainment, media, medicine, manufacturing, entrepreneurship, politics, the law and more. Students appreciate the chance to sample a profession, and hosts enjoy connecting with the boys, sharing their knowledge and experience with a new generation of potential employees.

Current juniors have one week -- Friday, May 16 to Friday, May 23 -- to opt in, and hosts have until Friday, May 9 to commit to any time period from one day (or one call) to one week.

To all potential hosts, thank you for taking the time to share your expertise with young men just starting out. Many alumni and parent DelEX volunteers confirm that serving as a host is a wonderful way to give back to Delbarton while meeting a new generation of ambitious young men. Quite a few Delbarton parents and alumni continue to sign on as DelEX hosts year after year, another proof of concept that hosting is a gratifying experience.
