As the new school year began at Delbarton, on September 11, six Delbarton seniors were named Semifinalists in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Competition, and sixteen seniors were camed Commended students.
The Semifinalist list includes Jack Andreuccetti '25, Sean Dooley '25, Gavin Hassan '25, Kevin Jin '25, Ryan Readlinger '25 and Suhaas Valveti '25. Nationwide, there are more than 16,000 National Merit Semifinalists, selected from among the over 1.3 million juniors in 21,000 high schools that participated in the 70th annual National Merit Scholarship Program. The nationwide pool of Semifinalists represents less than one percent of eligible U.S. high school seniors and includes the highest scoring entrants from each state. The number of Semifinalists per state is determined by the state's percentage of national total of graduating seniors.
These academically talented students now have an opportunity to advance to the Finalist level, vying to win a National Merit Scholarship. To do so, they must share an outstanding academic record, submit a detailed scholarship application, write an essay, be recommended by a school official, and demonstrate leadership abilities and exemplify a pattern of achievement. Finalists are announced in February 2025, and three types of National Merit Scholarships will be awarded in spring 2025: 2,500 National Merit $2500 Scholarships, 770 corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards, and 3,600 college-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards for Finalists who attend the sponsor institutions.
In addition, Delbarton has sixteen Commended students in the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Program. Commended students placed among the top 50,000 students who entered the 2025 competition by taking the 2023 PSAT. Commended students from Delbarton Class of 2025 are Hudson Bonetti, Zachary Chipperson, Henry Collins, Matias Deicas-Sykora, Nicholas Dionyssiou, Kevin Giblin, August Goyal, Ian Grenda, Alexander Meyer, Grant Parker, Romir Patel, Timothy Pinheiro, Zain Raza, Joseph Skuraton, Matther Tyrone and Griffin Velez.
We congratulate our six National Merit Semifinalists and sixteen National Merit Commended students, and wish our Semifinalists good luck as they continue to navigate the NM Scholarship process this year.
