Run It Out 5-K to Receive 2024 LLS Chairman's Award
Jessica Fiddes

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) New Jersey Region will present its 2024 Chairman's Award to the Delbarton Run It Out 5k service project.   Each April, Run It Out 5K takes place in memory of Brian Fleury P'19, a revered former Delbarton Athletic Director who lost his twenty year battle with lymphoma in 2007.

The annual spring event was launched in 2011 by Green Wave runner Patrick Fischer '15 as his freshman project. Fischer was inspired by the many stories he heard of Fleury's lasting influence on the ethos and culture of the Delbarton athletic program.  He is pictured below on right at the recent Fall Class Reps Dinner with Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd, O.S.B. and Matt Iammateo '10.

Over the past thirteen years, Run It Out has raised more than $250,000 for the LLS mission. After Fischer graduated in 2015, Fleury's close friends, Delbarton Varsity Football Head Coach Brian Bowers and his wife Melanie Bowers, Advancement Database Manager, pictured below, sustained and grew the event with the help of many Delbarton faculty, staff, student and alumni volunteers, and in partnership with Villa Walsh Academy (VWA), including Brian Fleury's wife VWA Athletic Director Jen Fleury P'19 and her son Tim Fleury '19, and friends and family members from Fleury's hometown of Morris Plains, NJ.

Kerry Richardson of LLS writes, "We are so grateful for your support of blood cancer patients and their families in memory of Brian Fleury. (We) are honored to have worked with you through the years, and we’re so excited to present this honor to your community." The Chairman's Award will be presented on December 5 during the Chairman’s Award Celebration, an volunteer reception, at Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Twp, NJ.

We are grateful for the many Delbarton community members who continue to contribute to and support our annual Run It Out 5K and commend them for the collective impact they've made on the LLS mission.
