On June 2, a banner gathering Delbarton alumni met on a mild, late spring evening in the Senior Garden for their annual June Dinner meeting (aka Pig Roast). After a rainy afternoon, the weather was perfect for dinner al fresco under the tents. After a social hour and a brief meeting during which the 2022-2023 board was announced, guests helped themselves to a buffet pig roast with all the fixings and a good time was had by all.
But first, there was business to attend to: after a greeting from Alumni Association President Chris Bury '91, P'19,'20,'23 and remarks from Headmster Fr. Michael Tidd, OSB who spoke about the transformative improvements that continue to occur on campus (including the North Field House currently under construction), Steve Block '71, P'10 addressed his brothers, reminding them to donate during the 2-day #delbartontogether campaign.
Assistant Headmaster for Advancement & Alumni Craig Paris '82, P'13,'15,'19 then announced the recipient of the "Red" Green '56 Fighting Spirit Award, and presented the award to Paul Mattiola '22 for his persistence, composure and leadership during his years at Delbarton. We congratulate Paul and his parents, Paul and Tina Mattiola P'22,'23 and the Mattiola family on this special recognition.
Alumni Association President Chris Bury '91, P'19,'20,'23 bid farewell and reminded younger alumni of the benefits for the Delbarton alumni network. Paris offered him a seat in Bury's new Delbarton chair, a parting gift from the Alumni Association for his years of service.
Next, former Alumni Association President Tim Fitzsimmons ’95, P'28 introduced 2022-23 Board members, many of whom are pictured below.
Incoming President John Ferramosca '05 then spoke, introducing his theme of 'Building the Legacy' and marveled at how a conversation with former DAA President Curt Ritter '89, P'22 on a commuter train twelve years ago led Ferramosca to his new job leading the Alumni Association. Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd offered grace, we took our annual group photo...
After the photo, while guests were helping themselves to roast porch, hotdogs, hamburgers and side dishes, Paris presented gifts to two departing Board members, John Glynn '90, who was instrumental in launching the Chicago chapter, and Steve Block '71, P'10 who contributed his communications skills during his tenure on the Board. Both were commended for their years of dedication and committment to the Delbarton Alumni Association.
After dinner, alumni from across the decades lingered in the Garden to trade stories and catch up. Thank you to the many alumni who joined us last night. Onward and upward into 2022-2023 for the Long Green Line of the Delbarton Alumni Association!
