Middle School Alumni Speaker Series Returns
Meghan Podimsky

Delbarton’s Middle School recently welcomed four alumni back to campus as part of the Middle School Speaker Series, giving students a firsthand look at diverse career paths and life lessons.

Bill Crutchlow ’86 kicked off this year's series by speaking about his work as a civil trial lawyer and partner at the law firm Eichen Crutchlow Zaslow in Edison, NJ. Some of his cases include medical malpractice, personal injury, and product liability cases. A graduate of Colgate University and Seton Hall Law School, Bill has spent his career advocating for clients in both New Jersey Superior and Federal Courts. He also highlighted his 35 years of service as a volunteer firefighter, encouraging students to explore service opportunities.

Next up, Thomas Murphy ’95 gave our students a behind-the-scenes look at neonatal medicine. After Delbarton, he earned his B.A. from Dartmouth, followed by a Master’s in Biomedical Sciences and an M.D. from Rutgers New Jersey Medical School. He went on to serve as a Resident Doctor at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth and then as a Medical Officer in the U.S. Navy, gaining critical experience in patient care. Today, Thomas is a neonatologist with MidAtlantic Neonatology Associates, caring for the region’s most vulnerable newborns. He brought specialized equipment to campus for a hands-on demo, showing students the tools he uses daily in the NICU and offering an inspiring look at medicine, service, and compassion in action.

Alex Cocoziello ’05 spoke about his path from Penn State to Cornell University, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial and Labor Relations and played a key role on lacrosse teams that won two Ivy League championships and reached the 2009 National Championship game. After starting his career on Wall Street at Bank of America, Alex joined his family’s firm, Advanced Realty Investors, where he now serves as Chief Investment Officer. His work includes major development projects, such as the buildings in front of Red Bull Stadium, and he emphasized the importance of learning from setbacks, working hard, and elevating your team, lessons that carry over from the field to the business world.

Joe Longo ’80 began by sharing stories from his time at Delbarton and his path to the University of Notre Dame, where he graduated in 1984. Today, he is the Owner and CEO of Longo Electrical‑Mechanical, Inc., one of the largest independent electrical-mechanical firms in the Northeast. Under his leadership, the company provides motors, pumps, controls, switchgear, and 24/7 field service across multiple locations. Joe offered valuable insights from running a family business, highlighting the importance of dedication, technical expertise, and integrity, while encouraging students to pursue their passions and think big about their future careers.

Chris Bury ’91 reflected on his journey from Notre Dame to Wall Street at Merrill Lynch, and now as Managing Director at Academy Securities. He also shared stories from his time on The Delbarton Courier, including writing a story about a memorable April Fools’ joke on campus during his Deabrton Days. highlighted his leadership roles in the Alumni Association and on the Board of Trustees. Fun Fact: Chris continues to stay connected to Delbarton through athletics, serving as the varsity lacrosse home game announcer! He also emphasized to our middle school students the importance of balancing professional success with community and school engagement.

This popular series reminds our middle school students that Delbarton alumni excel in many fields while staying true to the values of service, leadership, and perseverance.
