Matt Gemma '23 Chosen To Participate in 2022 US Army Bowl
Jared Lowy

This was not your typical Friday morning meeting at Delbarton, rather an event celebrating two of our own, who have committed the ultimate sacrifice in defending our country.  The morning meeting began with a truly remarkable speech by Major Alex Thew '07, who returned to Delbarton to speak to the students on Veterans Day.  Thew is also an alum of the Delbarton Football program!

The main event of the morning was the jersey presentation to Matt Gemma '23, who has been selected to play in the 2022 US Army Bowl this December in Dallas, Texas.  Gemma is the first Delbarton student to ever be selected to play in the game and will represent the United States Army in the exhibition. Created by Richard McGuinness, the Army Bowl brings the nation's best high school athletes together in an East v West All-Star Game. Played at the Ford Center at The Star, the Bowl Game will be nationally televised on the Bally Sports Network and serve as the main attraction of Bowl Week. Game day is where the high school and college football world collide as the best athletes preview their ability to the college football world awaiting them.  In order to be selected, over 50 scouts and recruiting partners help identity the best players at each grade level and position.

With the help of sponsor Takis, Gemma received his jersey in front of the entire school, including his parents and grandparents, along with Major Thew.

Congrats on this tremendous honor Matt and best of luck in Dallas this December!
