After a 14-4 win against Holy Spirit in six innings on Saturday, April 24, Head Baseball Coach Bruce Shatel secured his 900th career win. Shatel's coaching journey at Delbarton is a testament to his unwavering dedication and unparalleled success in hockey and baseball.

"I have been fortunate to coach some extremely talented players in both sports, but more importantly, I coach great kids," Shatel began. "To say that the guys who coach with me make my job enjoyable is an understatement. They provide our players with all the necessary tools to be successful. Delbarton School is a special place to me. I love coming to work every day and having the opportunity to coach hockey and baseball here.”

Shatel's coaching career began at Roxbury High School in 1995, where he served as the Head Baseball Coach for four years. He credits his father, legendary Morristown Baseball Coach, Harry Shatel, as a guiding influence throughout his early coaching years. Drawing upon his father's wisdom and experience, Shatel found inspiration and support as he embarked on his own coaching journey.

Taking the helm as the varsity hockey coach in 2001 after six years as an assistant coach, Shatel quickly made his mark by securing his first state title in his inaugural season. This victory set the stage for an extraordinary career ahead. Later in 2007, Shatel became Varsity Baseball Head Coach, leading the Green Wave to success on the baseball diamond.

Over the years, Shatel has solidified his legacy as one of the most accomplished coaches in high school sports, amassing an impressive collection of championships and titles. In hockey, he has led Delbarton to an astounding eleven State Championships and nine Gordon Cups, establishing the team as a perennial powerhouse in the sport.

"I could not be more proud and happy of what Bruce has accomplished during his tenure here at Delbarton School," started Delbarton Athletic Director and Varsity Assistant Baseball Coach Tony Negrin. "To me, Bruce has been a mentor and dear friend, as he has taught me more about life through the game of baseball than I ever could have imagined. Just in the ways he holds his students and players to the standard of excellence at all times, it is clear that his passion not just for his teams, but for the school as a whole is a major priority in his life. I could not be more thankful to have been in the same dugout for him for the last 11 years and I am confident that his success will continue here for many years to come. Truly, this is a man who has blessed the Delbarton community with his heart, his energy, and his care for the well-being of so many student-athletes since he walked on campus."
