On September 26, Mrs. Mickie Stricker, grandmother of Devin Martin '26 and Connor Martin '24, visited Ms. Otterbein’s World Religions class to offer a special presentation on the Jewish high holidays. With Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur just passing, Mrs. Stricker provided an engaging and informative session that allowed students to deepen their understanding of these sacred days.
Mrs. Stricker explained the significance of the holy days, including Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, and Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement. She also shared details about Sukkot, a festival that commemorates the Israelites' journey in the desert, and the weekly Shabbat service, a cornerstone of Jewish life.
In addition to her presentation, Mrs. Stricker brought along a special treat: circular challah bread, traditionally baked during Rosh Hashanah to symbolize the cycle of the year. Students thoroughly enjoyed this delicious addition, making the lesson all the more memorable.
We are grateful to Mrs. Stricker for sharing her time and wisdom with our World Religion students!
