On November 4, the Delbarton Pickleball Club took a trip to New York City, thanks to the generosity of Delbarton alum and pickleball entrepreneur Mark Vermylen '14, who runs House Pickleball in the West Village. Mark has been in ongoing discussions with Club Moderator Tom Bennett, as he offered to host an event exclusively for Delbarton.
Pickleball Club member Hunter Terbog '26 reflected on the experience, saying "Being able to see our plans for the event come to fruition was truly special. Everyone having a wonderful time hanging out and competing against one another made for a memorable experience. The event made me realize how much pickleball is growing and the community people can find in the sport. I am glad that I had the opportunity to connect with Mark and collaborate on an amazing event, hopefully, there will be more to come in the Delbarton Pickleball and House Pickleball partnership."
The day kicked off with a thrilling mini-tournament featuring House Pickleball’s top-of-the-line equipment and other prizes. Spirits were high as our students hit the court, showing off their skills with some friendly competition mixed in.
After working up an appetite on the court, the club enjoyed a classic NYC treat—burgers! It was the perfect ending to an energetic day, and students left feeling inspired and enthusiastic about pickleball. Thank you to Mark and House Pickleball for inviting our students out to the West Village for the day!
