Delbarton Hosts “We Are Called” Diversity Conference
Meghan Podimsky

Delbarton welcomed educators, parents, and community members to campus on March 28 for the annual “We Are Called” Diversity Conference for New Jersey Catholic Schools. This year’s gathering brought together Catholic and independent school communities for a full day dedicated to belonging, empathy, and the seven themes of Catholic social teaching.

The conference opened with a keynote address from Fr. Duberney, pastor of St. Margaret of Scotland, who offered a powerful reflection on the vocation of educators and leaders. “We are called not just to teach subjects in the classroom but to change hearts," he shared, setting a thoughtful tone for the day’s discussions and workshops.

Participants then selected from six engaging sessions, including:

  • Writing: A Path to Empathy
  • Coaching Academic Fundamentals: Strategies to Help Students Plan and Practice
  • Ethical Considerations for the Use of AI in Education
  • Faith in Action: Strategies for Practical Engagement in Light of Catholic Social Teaching
  • “Listening With the Ear of Your Heart”: Compassionate Listening and Authentic Student Discussions in the Age of AI
  • Theatre of the Oppressed: Embodied Learning for Social Justice and Social Action

Each workshop offered practical tools and reflective space for attendees to deepen their understanding of Catholic social teaching and strengthen their commitment to building inclusive, mission-driven communities.

Throughout the day, meaningful conversations, shared insights, and collaborative learning underscored the collective dedication of educators, parents, and school leaders to nurturing environments where every student feels seen and supported.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and participated in this year's conference.
