On November 21, a wet and chilly Thursday morning on Delbarton campus, students collectively filled an 18-wheeler with carton after carton of donated food and necessities like diapers and baby wipes. In a model of efficiency, Deaneries were previously assigned donation categories, families gave generously, and Deanery leaders in classrooms rallied their members to box up the donations and deliver them to the truck.
Outside, Mothers' Guild volunteers armed with rolls of tape reinforced cardboard boxes and kept the flow of cartons moving while our young men did the heavy lifting.
The next afternoon -- which turned out to be an unexpected snow day at Delbarton -- we spread the word on social media that we needed help. Fifty students (plus some faculty members and parents) left the comfort of their homes to travel to Interfaith Food Pantry in Morris Plains and help unload the truck. We are so grateful to everyone for the support of this year's Thanksgiving Food Drive.
Director of Mission & Ministry Matt White later said, "It was a real testament to what kind of community Delbarton is, as much of a testament as the 7,003 pounds of food that we donated to the InterFaith Food Pantry."
In the months to come, many in our extended Morris County community will benefit from this year's Delbarton Thanksgiving Food Drive. Thank you for the assist, Green Wave, and best wishes to you and your family for a very Happy Thanksgiving!
