On April 28, members of the Delbarton community once again gathered at the scenic Hudson Farm in Andover for the 11th Annual Abbot Giles P. Hayes '56 Shooting Classic. Under clear skies and ideal spring weather, alumni, parents, faculty, and friends reconnected in the great outdoors, accompanied by the steady rhythm of shotgun fire echoing through the woods.

Before heading out to the course, guests enjoyed lunch at the Crow’s Nest, where they were welcomed by Assistant Headmaster for Advancement Craig Paris ’82 and Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd, O.S.B. Keeping with tradition, Fr. Michael officially launched the event with a resounding cannon blast, signaling the start of the competition. Participants grabbed their gear, loaded up their vehicles, and set off across the sprawling course.

Competing in teams of four, shooters spent the afternoon testing their aim and skills for a chance to claim the coveted Abbot Giles P. Hayes Cup. This year, the winning team was once again the familiar and formidable foursome of George Parsells P’17, A.J. Papetti ’82 P’13, ’14, ’17, AJ Papetti Jr. ’13, and Herman Kurz. AJ Papetti Jr. also earned individual honors as High Shot, scoring an impressive 94.

As the sun began to set, the group gathered for a commemorative photo. Craig Paris then offered closing remarks, expressing appreciation for the participants and honoring the memory of Abbot Giles Hayes, in whose name the event is held.

Special thanks go out to the staff at Hudson Farm for their warm hospitality and to Peter Ramsey ’90 for once again coordinating a flawless and meaningful day for the Delbarton community.
