From financial literacy and college campus guidance, to a casual class photo and BBQ, seniors enjoyed a busy morning on campus on May 21.
Delbarton Regent Kevin Hudson '93, Princeton University Associate Director for Institutional Diversity and College Opportunity, opened the program by speaking about what you need to do right in college to succeed, followed by a talk from licensed counselor Paul DePinto about establishing an independent life and making responsible choices. James DeLuca, CEO and Co-Founder of Inkwiry, a platform that shares personal finance skills, knowledge and tools, shared practical advice on how to build security and net worth. His advice: spend less than you earn, pay off your credit card bill each month, open a Roth IRA, then invest and be patient. Boys asked good questions, having previously met wth DeLuca several times as part of Delbarton's multi-year financial literacy program.
Next came some more familiar faces, older brothers from the Class of 2023, including Joe Narduzzi '23 (Fordham), Hudson Honeker '23 (SMU), Finn McDonald '23 (Wake Forest), Chris Lee (UPenn) and Dominic Tse (Rice) who shared tips based on their freshman year experiences. Seniors then moved to the gym where Director of Security Scott Carrell, a former Marine and NYPD police officer, talked about strategies and tactics for how to stay safe on and around college campuses.
Taking advantage of perfect spring weather, we captured an informal shot of boys in the Formal Garden wearing their college gear (on Thursday, the traditional jacket and tie group photo will be taken in front of Old Main).
Finally, a picture of our Class of 2024 recruited athletes was taken on the lacrosse field's iconic Wave D logo (we have forty in all, five are missing in the photo below).
College Orientation can make a man hungry, so to complete the morning at Debarton, Sage Dining served a delicious BBQ lunch, and a good time was had by all as the Class of 2024 approaches graduation on Sunday, June 2!
