Delbarton Hosts Vibrant Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration
Meghan Podimsky

On the evening of October 10, Delbarton celebrated Hispanic culture with a lively outdoor party throughout campus.

The recent unpredictable fall weather was on our side as Delbarton students, teachers, and a team of Delbarton Dads took to the Old Main lawn for the annual Copa América Delbarton Tournament as the country-versus-country fútbol games unfolded throughout the night.

Meanwhile in the Garden, Delbarton parents accessorized tables with cultural items to educate and entertain passersby.

Our parent volunteers fed the crowd some delicious options, including piping hot Cubano sandwiches with yucca fries, a variety of empanadas, and tacos with all the fixings. This year's menu included a pig roasted by Julian Osorio ‘24’s grandfather. Using a human-powered roaster he designed and built himself, Julian's grandfather was in the garden from 8 a.m. until the event preparing the main course.

To close out the night, guests were able to participate in some dance lessons right outside of the Fine Arts Center; from the bachata to salsa, nearly everyone who came was picking up on the moves and following along by the end of the event! All night long, DJ ALX entertained guests with a variety of current pop hits and Latin music favorites and the night ended with a performance from a live Latin band, both of which created the perfect musical background for this vibrant celebration.

Thank you to all our DAP student leaders and dedicated PCDI parents whose creativity and hard work produced such a memorable night at Delbarton. A salute also to our DEIB  coordinators Jenna GomezKendall Rodgers, Jordan Hubbard ’17, and Bevin Freeman for guiding the way to this very special celebration.
