This summer, Delbarton Art Teacher and Artist Ms. Yazia Dominguez returned to Spain, where her love for art began.

Back in her hometown of Burgos, Ms.Dominguez presented her work at two exhibitions, reconnecting with the community that helped shape her before she came to the United States. "It has been delightful to have my artwork in my hometown," she said.  Her shows brought together family, friends, her former professors, and local artists to celebrate her career that has evolved since she began at Delbarton seven years ago. 

The biggest show during her visit was as an exhibition at Café de las Artes, where 18 of her original paintings were on display. The exhibition was featured daily in the local newspaper drawing visitors from across the community, giving Dominguez the opportunity to share the work she has developed over the past several years. 

A second exhibition highlighted her evolution as an artist in a more personal way, celebrating motherhood. Dominguez was invited to display one of her paintings at Mar de Hojas, a thoughtfully curated children's bookstore that features artwork by local artists inspired by childhood and literature. Her painting was a collaboration with her young son, who painted the background of the piece before Dominguez completed the portrait of him playing with Play-Doh. 

At Delbarton, her artistic experiences continue to shape her work in the classroom. Whether she's teaching drawing, photography, or filmmaking, Dominguez encourages her students to express their creativity and self-expression. Through her artistic journey, she shows her students that learning and creating truly never end.

As another school year at Delbarton is about to begin, Dominguez returns to campus with fresh inspiration from a summer that celebrated not only her accomplishments as an artist, but also the enduring connection between home, family, and the creative spirit.
