AP Art Spotlight: Tyler Vazquez '23
Meghan Podimsky

This year, Delbarton is blessed with ten artists in the Class of 2023 who shared their work at an AP Art Exhibit currently displayed in the FAC for the month of February. To give each talented young man the audience he deserves, we highlight each artist in our annual AP Artist Spotlight series.

Introducing our tenth and final featured artist, Tyler Vazquez '23.

Tyler says this about his art journey in his Artist Statement:

"I would draw in my notebook every time my teacher told us to take notes, but that was before school got hard. Once I started at Delbarton, I stopped drawing, giving my full attention to my studies. However,  I had the chance to draw again during my sophomore year in the visual arts class where I was introduced to a variety of mediums."

Taking his re-found love for art and combing it with his active lifestyle as a student-athlete, Tyler wanted to focus on food for his Sustained Investigation. After visiting the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Tyler was inspired by a variety of cubism artists. "My subject matter presents a medley of fresh food arranged within the confines of various containers where light, color and form are affected. Compositional elements and study of various techniques with oil pastel are explored," he explained.
