After taking a brief pause during spring break, we are back with our AP Artist Spotlight series. This year, Delbarton has twelve artists in the Class of 2024 who displayed their full Sustained Investigations at the annual AP Art Exhibit in the FAC.
Meet our next student artist, Ronan O'Sullivan '24:
"Having spent numerous summers vacationing in Martha’s Vineyard, my family and I became enamored with its charming community of unique, gingerbread-esque cottages," he began in his Artist Statement. "Every house, whether big or small, has beautiful colors, which appeal to my love for vibrant hues in art. As I spent more time biking and exploring this fascinating community of houses, I decided to explore its unique aesthetic and atmosphere through my work."
Most of his pieces were painted with acrylic paint until O'Sullivan started incorporating oil pastels to make his work feel more life-like. From the unique architecture of these homes with their intricate roof trims, porch railings, and balconies, to their vibrant colors, O'Sullivan wanted to bring out the personality and character these houses have to offer Martha's Vineyard. "I aim to captivate viewers by exploring the distinctive charm of each house and inviting them into a whimsical world of creativity and imagination."
Enjoy this collection of Ronan's art below. We salute him and his fellow AP Art artists for their exceptional achievements in the arts at Delbarton this year!
