AP Art Spotlight: Robert Alexy '23
Meghan Podimsky

This year, Delbarton is blessed with ten artists in the Class of 2023 who shared their work at an AP Art Exhibit currently displayed in the FAC for the month of February. To give each of these talented young men the audience he deserves, we are highlighting each artist in our annual AP Artist Spotlight series.

Introducing our first featured artist, Robert Alexy '23.

Robert says this about his art in his Artist Statement:

"I began my art career to fulfill a newly instated Delbarton arts requirement. I remember doing sketches of spheres in my sketchbook and other basic drawings, but despite the simplicity of my early works, I found freedom in my expression.

In my junior year, however, my loose affiliation with art evolved into a passion for creating something individualistic. I diligently studied mediums such as oil paint, watercolor, scratchboard, etching, charcoal, and many more. Eventually, I tried and fell in love with the two particular mediums I use to create the works you see now: Acrylic paint and Oil pastel."

The inspiration for his Sustained Investigation stems from his love for the water. While on a trip to St. Petersburg Marina in Florida, Robert started to take notice of all the sailing vessels docked there. He began photographing them, paying close attention to the details within the vessels' structures. "Each time I visited, I found myself becoming more and more drawn to images I saw of multiple boats docked at the marina, and not before long, I found myself photographing all the amazing linear forms created by multiple masts, ropes, or reflections. My sustained Investigation is all about exploring those forms, trying to show aspects people take for granted as something really meaningful and different," he explains in his Artist Statement.

We salute him and his fellow AP Art artists for their exceptional achievements in the arts at Delbarton this year. ALL are welcome to join us on February 24 in the FAC for our AP Art Exhibition and Reception as we celebrate these ten AP Artists and their creative achievements!
