On June 3, a banner gathering Delbarton alumni met on a rainy late spring evening under tents in the Garden for their annual June Dinner meeting (aka Pig Roast). Glum weather did nothing to dampen the spirits of our men. After socializing, and a brief meeting during which the 2021-2022 board was announced, guests helped themselves to a buffet pig roast with all the fixings and a good time was had by all.
But first, there was business to address: Delbarton Alumni Association President Chris Bury '91, P'19,'20,'23 gave a quick summary of the year and Vice President John Ferramosca '05 (pictured on left with Bury below) encouraged alumni to donate during the two-day #DelbartonTOGETHER push that concluded on June 3. He referenced the heated contest that was taking place on social media among Alumni Association Chapters in DC, Chicago, Hoboken and New York. A classic throw down, Delbarton-style!
Headmaster Fr. Michael Tidd gave a brief state of the school report and thanked alumni for their continued support of Delbarton.
Next, Assistant Headmaster for Advancement Craig Paris '82, P'13,'15,'19 paid tribute to two departing Advancement colleagues, Matt Campbell '08, on right below, and Pat Collins '81, P'19, center, with Fr. Michael, and gave them each a parting gift.
Paris then announced the recipient of the "Red" Green '56 Fighting Spirit Award, and presented the award to Matthew Johnson '21 for his persistence, composure and leadership during his years at Delbarton. We congratulate Matt and his parents, Amon and Luz Johnson P'21,'22,'25 on this special recognition. Matt's younger brothers Ryan '22 and Andrew '25 joined their parents in witnessing the presentation.
Delbarton Archivist Kent Manno, wearing a vintage Delbarton letterman jacket, spoke briefly about his efforts to capture the institutional memory of Delbarton with photos and memorabilia, and asked alumni to consider donating items to the effort.
Next, former Alumni Association President Tim Fitzsimmons ’95 introduced 2021-22 Board members.
Finally, our annual Pig Roast group shot in the Garden was snapped...
Thetheme was 'if you're going to get wet, get SOAKED' as the rain fell steadily throughout the night, including during this group photo. Luckily, Delbarton alumni are waterproof. Multiple big top tents -- installed for the Faculty Picnic, Alumni Pig Roast, tonight's Senior Prom/Soiree and Graduation on June 6 -- kept alumni dry and comfortable.
Dinner was served and, afterwards, Delbarton friends from across the decades lingered to trade stories and catch up.
Thank you to all who joined us last night. Onward and upward into 2021-2022 for the Long Green Line of the Delbarton Alumni Association!
