The 21st annual Carter Cup—the Metropolitan Golf Association's Junior Stroke Play Championship—was held at Baltusrol Golf Club in Springfield, NJ on Tuesday, August 2. The invitational event is named in memory of Michael P. Carter '00, an accomplished junior player and standout Green Wave golf team member who died in a car accident in 2002. Michael was a junior club champion at Baltusrol and Winged Foot Golf Club and a promising player on the Penn State golf team.
The Carter Cup features 46 top junior golfers from the metropolitan area typically playing 36 holes in the summer heat on the Baltusrol course—a rigorous mental and physical endurance test. This year, Delbarton was represented by Green Wave golfer Tyler Lee '23. Lee is pictured below with Mary Lou Carter P'00.
Barnes Blake of Westfield, New Jersey took home the trophy at this year's Carter Cup as he is Georgetown-bound this fall. Blake is the first-ever Baltusrol member to win the Carter Cup as he set a new Carter Cup scoring record of 11-under par en route to the eight-shot win.
We honor the memory of former Green Wave golfer Michael Carter '00 who gave the sport of golf everything he had while he was among us.
