2026 AP Artist Spotlight: Gavin Guo ’26
Meghan Podimsky

As part of Delbarton’s annual AP Art Exhibit, we continue our AP Artist Spotlight series highlighting the creativity, identity, and vision of our senior artists. This week, we feature Gavin Guo ’26, whose work explores the intersection of Chinese and American culture through personal imagery and evolving artistic techniques.

Gavin’s work is rooted in a lifelong experience of cultural duality shaped by both traditions. He explains, “As a Chinese-American, my entire life has been a mixture of Chinese and American culture,” where American traditions often carry subtle influences from his Chinese heritage.

As this became the foundation of his sustained investigation, Gavin began exploring how cultural identity can be expressed visually through art. He reflects on this guiding question in his work: “How does Chinese culture seamlessly blend into American culture?” Early in the year, he focused on acrylic paintings of cityscapes before transitioning to oil pastels and more detailed mediums that allowed for greater precision and expression.

As his portfolio developed, Gavin shifted from public, generalized imagery to incorporating family members and personal moments into his work. Through this change, he aimed to create a more personal connection for viewers, explaining, “I want to provide a new perspective for viewers so that they can experience what I have experienced throughout my entire life.”

We thank Gavin Guo ’26 for sharing his artistic journey and perspective, and we look forward to the next AP Artist Spotlight in this year’s series.
