The Arts

The fine and performing arts flourish at Delbarton outside the curriculum as well. The art department sponsors clubs in architecture and studio, faculty and student exhibits, and trips to galleries and museums. Vocal and instrumental instruction is available from two full-time and eight part-time instructors. Qualified musicians are available to teach piano, organ, guitar, strings, percussion, woodwinds, and brass instruments.

Performing groups include the Brass Ensemble, the Schola Cantorum (singing group), the Jazz Ensemble, the Wind Ensemble, and the Abbey Orchestra, whose membership is drawn not only from boys in the School but also from musicians in the surrounding community. Recitals and performances are held throughout the year.

Delbarton’s Abbey Players stage four theatrical productions a year, involving boys in a wide variety of dramatic and musical experiences. Boys study the craft of acting by researching different facets of theater, including mime, dialogue, and skits.
