Italia vs. España Food & Futbol Face-Off
Posted February 21, 2013
On February 20, 2013 Italian teacher Mike DelGuericio ’04 and Spanish teacher Jaime Paris organized a cultural food fest in conjunction with a live screening of the Champions League game between Italian team AC Milan and Spanish team FC Barcelona. All Italian and Spanish teachers pitched in to help. After classes ended for the day, students headed for the FAC where banquet tables were laden with Italian delicacies -- mostly supplied by the Italian language students and their families -- and Spanish food, which was (wha-aat?) catered. The event was open to all students and exposed other boys to the language and food of other cultures. Click here for photos.
After the food frenzy the next stop was the FAC Theater -- where understandably no food or drinks are permitted -- to watch the hotly contested game between Italia and España. DelGuercio reports that Italian students sang the Italian National Anthem halfway through the contest to cheer for their squad and this bold move appeared to work wonders. Milan went on to win 2-0.
DelGuercio says, “Overall there was lots of enthusiasm for the event, and we definitely hope to repeat its success later in the school year.” We can almost taste the next one...Italian v.
