Cory Terzis '03 flew the Delbarton flag proudly as he crossed the finish line (at the 12:08:04 mark) in New York City's inaugural 2012 Ironman U.S. Championship on August 11, 2012. Terzis was greeted by Delbarton friends and his family, including his dad Dr. Jay Terzis '65 and brothers Casey '00 and Patrick '02, who were impressed with Corey's athletic achievement: a 2.4 mile swim in the Hudson, 112-mile bike ride on the Palisades Parkway in Bergen and Rockland Counties and, the final challenge, a 26.2 mile run that started in the Garden State and ended in Manhattan's Riverside Park.

Delbarton dad Guy Adami P'17 also competed in the Ironman race as part of a team from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society of New Jersey. Adami is a board member of the non-profit and in June The New York Times published an article on the challenge Adami faced as he tranformed himself from a sedentary Wall Streeter to a lean, mean racing machine. Read the Times piece here.

New York City's 140.6 mile race was a new addition to the prestigious Ironman global series and took place in the most metropolitan environment ever to host an Ironman. More than 3,000 participants from around the world swam, biked and ran their way to glory. (Registration had opened on June 15 at noon and and sold out in just eleven minutes.) There was even a prize purse of $125,000 for distribution among the top professional male and female finishers but, hey, money is moot when it comes to an Ironman event. The bragging rights alone are priceless.

The fact that Terzis thought to pack a Delbarton flag (a gift from Director of Alumni and Development J. Craig Paris '82) prior to the race makes Delbarton an official sponsor of the Terzis phenom, and we could not be prouder.

Thanks for wearing the flag at the finish line, Ironman Terzis and congraulations to Guy Adami for the courage and persistence it took to take on the Ironman challenge. No guts, no glory, men, and the entire Delbarton community salutes you both. Go Wave Ironmen!
