Club Rugby Wins NJ High School Rugby Championship

Posted May 14, 2012

Congratulations to the Delbarton Club Rugby team and Coach Tom Feury for the team's convincing 43-3 win over rival Saint Peters Prep in the Single High School Final on May 12, 2012 at Rutgers in New Brunswick.

Saint Peters took a 3-0 lead only three minutes into the match when they slotted a penalty kick. This was the first time Delbarton had been scored upon first all season and they responded with 43 straight points. Booyah, Delbarton!

Senior captain and Rugby All American Jake Feury '12 grabbed the first 7 points, followed by Michael Parowski '14 and Tom Lenz '14 added two more try’s, one of which was converted by Feury to put Delbarton up 19-0. Chris Soulas '12 stripped the ball and passed it out to wing Matt Agresti '12. Agresti broke to the outside and ran the length of the field to touch down the final try of the half which gave Delbarton a 24-3 halftime lead and the team never looked back.

Coach Feury reports, "There would be no let up in the stingy Delbarton defense in the second half, as they denied St Peters any more points."

Feury (the younger) scored twice more for a hat trick and kicked both conversions giving Delbarton a commanding 38-3 lead. Just when St Peters looked like they would finally score, Delbarton fullback Matt Agresti '12 got hold of the ball and kicked it into St Peters territory. Ryan Maguire '12 got across for the final try of the game, giving Delbarton its first State Championship.
