Blood Drive Results Are In and...

Posted March 28, 2012

Blood Drive results are in and Delbarton's 30th annual Blood Drive set a new donation record: we had 149 donors -- one fewer than last year -- but thanks to the new ALYX technology (check out our pictures to see the machine at work) we collected 158 units of blood--- thus setting a new record!

The March 28th Drive went off without a hitch thanks to the hard work of students, parents and nurse Barbara Pereyra. Click here for photos. A team of expert technicians spent the day drawing blood in the gym, and Delbarton student and parent volunteers registered, processed and fed the donors, including many young guys for whom this was the first time giving blood. Gulp.

"Are you donating today?" we asked one boy.

"No, I'm too afraid...but my mom's giving." Fifteen minutes later we spotted him looking for a fax machine so his mother would fax him the required permission slip. Ah, the power of positive peer pressure and the courage to take a personal leap of faith. We salute you, brave donor.

Thank you to all who made our 30th annual Drive a success. As Barbara Pearson of New Jersey Blood Services said, "Thirty years of consistent giving is a very big deal!"
