Kevin Feeley P'09, '12, '16 has been selected to receive the 2012 Caritas Award from the Community Soup Kitchen at Share the Bounty 2012 on April 19th at the Madison Hotel. Feeley is receiving the award for his leadership with the Youth Council, his longtime support of the Soup Kitchen through Delbarton’s Fathers and Friends, and his pivotal role in initiating the Healthy Choices Market.
When Feeley became sole chairman of the Delbarton Fathers and Friends Community Service committee six years ago he inherited a program with a strong tradition of supporting the Soup Kitchen, and expanded the committment even further. Delbarton’s Thanksgiving food drive has grown to collect as much as 54,000 lbs. of canned goods annually, stocking the Kitchen's pantry for much of the year.
According to the Soup Kitchen newsletter, "Kevin became a leading force in our Youth Council, seeing it as a natural way for kids to be involved with the Soup Kitchen’s mission. He wants the students to have a full understanding of what goes on in their own backyard."
Feeley introduced the Grow a Row organization to the Soup Kitchen when he started making weekly pick-ups of fresh vegetables. Reports the Soup Kitchen, "His actions became the template for the Healthy Choices Market – one of our fastest growing programs."
Feeley views volunteering on the Kitchen's serving line as a privilege because you can see the difference you are making in a person’s life. He is quoted in the newsletter, “I am honored and just grateful to the Soup Kitchen for opening the door to Delbarton and my family. Once you’ve volunteered at the Soup Kitchen, you know you’ll want to come back. Looking out for other people just feels right.”
Feeley will receive the Caritas Award at Share the Bounty 2012 on Thursday, April 19 at 6:00 pm at the Madison Hotel, and event that celebrates "10,000 Consecutive Days of Caring, Connecting and Changing Lives". The cocktail buffet and silent auction is the single largest fundraiser for the Soup Kitchen, an organization which receives no government financing. Contact the Soup Kitchen here if you would like more information on the annual event.
The Delbarton community salutes Delbarton dad Kevin Feeley on the generous spirit that is reflected in his hard work on behalf of Delbarton Fathers & Friends and the Community Soup Kitchen.
