Freshman Patrick Fischer '15 wasn't sure what to focus on for his Freshman Project (every freshman has to produce one). When he saw the BEF patch on his Cross Country uniform last fall, he asked Coach John Barnicle what the letters meant. After hearing that the patch honors the late, great Delbarton athletic director Brian Fleury, Fischer decided that his Project would be to organize a 5 K Run in Fleury's memory.

The race on Sunday, April 29, 2012 was, in the words of Delbarton Headmaster Br. Paul Diveny, "A great and positive event that attracted lots of support from the extended Delbarton and Villa Walsh communities." Two hundred runners registered and the event raised $5,000. Fischer says, "Mr. Fleury must have been looking down and blessed us with great weather--it was a perfect day for a run!"

Fisher's goal was to introduce a whole new generation of Delbarton students to Fleury's impact on the School. He invited members of both the Delbarton and Villa Walsh community to participate in the 5 K event -- Fleury's widow Jen is Villa Walsh's Athletic Director -- and many alumni and current students showed up to run on Sunday.

Fleury, who passed away in 2006 after a 20 year battle with cancer, inspired many at Delbarton. Run It Out was a fitting way to celebrate his memory and to introduce younger generations of students to an authentic Delbarton hero.
