Note Card Format Guidelines

There are three basic types of notes:

1) Direct Quotation: repeats the words from the source exactly
2) Paraphrase: repeats an idea from the source but uses different words
3) Summary: repeats in different words and at the same time condenses
   an idea from the source

--4x6 or 3x5 cards are acceptable
--Distinguish different sections of your note cards by either using
cards of different colors or by coloring the tops of the cards.
--Start each card with a guideline or section from your outline.
--Try to limit each card to one or two sentences on a single idea
  or sub-topic.
--Number each note card in the upper left corner
--Give each source card a number
--When quoting, put the number of the source card in the upper right
corner of the note card. Circle this number to indicate that it refers
  to a source card.
--If you are quoting, be sure to use quotation marks and indicate the
  page reference after the quote.
--Note card sequence:
	1) Legend Card: Indicate the colors used and the section that each
color corresponds to in your note cards.
	2) Source Cards: each work from your bibliography should have a
source card. Each source card should be numbered so you can
	   reference the source.
	3) Note cards with factual information
