Why Study History?
The study of history is essential in developing citizens who understand contemporary issues with a depth and wisdom drawn from the experience of the past. Without history, a society shares no common memory of where it has been, what its core values are, or what decisions of the past account for present circumstances. Lacking a collective memory of important things, people lapse into political amnesia, unable to understand what newspapers are saying, to hear what is in – or left out of – a speech, or to talk to each other about public questions...

In whatever job we do, we do the very best we can -
every single time. Either we do it top-notch,
or we don't do it at all.
Unofficial motto of the Coast Guard
God grant me the courage not to give up what

Servanthood is not about position or
skill. It's about attitude ... The truth
is that the best leaders desire to serve
others...not themselves ...Servant leadership
is never motivated by manipulation or self
promotion. In the end, the extent your
influence depends on the depth your
concern or others.

HS201 Goes Green...
It is amazing that in this digital age we live in that
we continue to use massive amounts of paper. The more
we can do online, the less we need paper.
In an effort to help preserve our environment, HS201
will continue the Going Green Project in 2010. All course materials
(outlines, essays, chapter homework questions) will
be available electronically via the course website.
In addition to saving many reams of paper, it will
allow students 24/7/365 access to course materials
from home or on campus. If a student does not have
Internet access at home, he can access the course
website on campus and print the needed handouts.
Our lighter ecological footprint can make a difference!
