Why Study History?
The study of history is essential in developing citizens who understand contemporary issues with a depth and wisdom drawn from the experience of the past. Without history, a society shares no common memory of where it has been, what its core values are, or what decisions of the past account for present circumstances. Lacking a collective memory of important things, people lapse into political amnesia, unable to understand what newspapers are saying, to hear what is in – or left out of – a speech, or to talk to each other about public questions...

HS201 Goes Green
It is amazing that in this digital age we live in that
we continue to use massive amounts of paper. The more
we can do online, the less we need paper.
In an effort to help preserve our environment, HS201
will continue the Going Green Project in 2008. All course materials
(outlines, essays, chapter homework questions) will
be available electronically via the course website.
In addition to saving many reams of paper, it will
allow students 24/7/365 access to course materials
from home or on campus. If a student does not have
Internet access at home, he can access the course
website on campus and print the needed handouts.
Our lighter ecological footprint can make a difference!
Food for Thought
...it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done.
Rocky Balboa (2006)
The human brain now holds the key to our future. We have to recall
the image of the planet from outer space: a single entity in which air,
water, and continents are interconnected. That is our home.
David Suzuki - Canadian environmentalist and activist
Those who cannot remember the past are
condemned to repeat it.
George Santayana (1863 - 1952), The Life of Reason, Volume 1, 1905
History is the version of past events that people have decided to agree upon.
Napoleon Bonaparte (1769 - 1821)
History never looks like history when you are living through it.
John W. Gardner (1912 - 2002), quoted by Bill Moyers
We can't all be heroes because somebody has to sit
on the curb and clap as they go by.
Will Rogers (1879 - 1935)
